Homemade Cucumber Makeup Remover Pads

Admit it, you’ve gone to bed without removing your makeup first. Tsk, tsk. Ha! Just kidding, I’ve totally done the same thing. In fact, I think most women have at one time or another, and while I’d like to say “no big deal”, the truth is sleeping with your makeup on is pretty bad. Why is it so bad? I’m glad you asked!

For one, makeup clogs pores and prevents the secretion of sebum. Sebum is a ”waxy lubricant that helps moisturize and protect our skin. Sebum also helps remove dead skill cells and other irritants from pores… “ (How It Works Health). Using homemade makeup remover pads removes buildup and allows pores to do their thing while you sleep.

In addition, sleeping with makeup on can cause eye inflammation and unsightly and uncomfortable styes. Comodynes says, “Rubbing your face against a pillow will ultimately rub that mascara and shadow into your eyes causing inflammation which can lead to styes.” These homemade makeup remover pads are safe to use around your eyes to remove eye makeup. Due to the chemicals they contain, the same cannot be said for many store-bought makeup remover pads. Their ingredients, such as alcohol, may cause eye irritation.

Overall, sleeping with makeup on is not good for you and your skin. Furthermore, it can stain your PJs, pillowcase, sheets, etc. Not cool!

At this point, you’re (hopefully) thinking “Fine, fine, I’ll wash my face before bed.” However, before you rush off to the store to buy a facial cleanser or makeup remover pads, consider this recipe for homemade makeup remover pads. Why? Again, I’m glad you asked.

As mentioned above, many store-bought options may not be safe to use around your eyes and you definitely don’t want to leave your eye makeup on when going to bed. Homemade makeup remover pads, on the other hand, can be used around your eyes. In addition, since you’re not rinsing your face with water when you use a store-bought makeup remover pad, you’re leaving behind a film of the ingredients found in the store-bought pads. According to the Huffington Post “[Those ingredients] can be drying and irritating for some people, especially those with dry or sensitive skin. Also, some wipes contain alcohol, which can cause stinging.” You will not encounter the same problem with homemade makeup remover pads.

Lastly, since store-bought varieties may sit on a the shelf for a while, they require preservatives. Thereby, when you use store-bought makeup remover pads, you’re exposing your skin to those preservatives which may be irritating and harmful. These homemade makeup remover pads are all natural, so you don’t have to be concerned about strange, unpronounceable ingredients.

Bonus: You can make these homemade makeup remover pads in just a few minutes. Seriously, it would take you longer to find alternative options at your local drug store. Don’t believe me? Go ahead, give these homemade makeup remover pads a try… I’ll time you. 🙂
